With an annual
production of 92 million tonnes a year (2006), rock
material is Sweden’s biggest industrial product. The
rock material industry, with its raw materials of
crushed rock, pit-run gravel and recycled material,
is as the supplier of material for roads, asphalt
and concrete, essential for our buildings and
infrastructure.
A large proportion of the more than 17,000 belt
conveyors delivered from our factories over the past
50 years, have been used within the rock material
industry around the world. Some of the projects have
been as complete plants including crushers,
screeners, control and power systems, as well as
buildings, and some have been part of existing
plants.
Even if the most common projects within the rock
material industry involve conveyor systems for
crushing and screening plants, modern production
technology has generated the conditions and
opportunity for a crushing plant to use much more of
the raw material than ever before. Even the smallest
fractions, which traditionally weren’t usable and
seen as residue, can now be handled as a raw
material in the production process.
One example of this is a Norwegian plant which
crushes and fractions from 2-22 mm via traditional
vibrating screens, and material under 2 mm which is
screened in 3 different fractions in a
wind-screening facility, where the finest fractions
are between 0 and 0.063 mm. The screeners then
distribute the material into 10 different storage
silos. Dosing from the silos is via vibro-feeders
and dosing screws in different fractions to an
asphalt plant beside the silo, or to a concrete
station on the other side of the silo. The plant
also has the capacity to offload each individual
quality straight from the silo into a truck or
dumper.
The plant is a turn-key solution from the Kellve
group and the project included 22 belt conveyors,
including four conveyor bridges, with flexowell
belts on weighing cells. 10 silos holding between
600 and 850 tons each. The project included
projection, design, production, technical
coordination between various suppliers in the
project, mechanical assembly and commissioning of
the equipment.
